Description

A handcrafted hair fork made from Mahogany ( Sapele ) and European Ash. The Mahogany ( Sapele ) has a rich dark hue and deep lustrous grain giving a very smooth finish with lots of depth. The European Ash, by contrast, is much paler with a gentle flecked grain running the length of the Fork. The dark and light design, along with a destinctive curl shape forming the top edge, make a very unique pin.

Sapele Mahogany comes from West, Central and East Africa. It is often used in furniture and cabinet making and as a veneer for marquetry. It is also used in the construction of musical instruments, for building boats and as a flooring material. European Ash is a prolific species forming a very important role in the ecosystem of woodlands across Europe. It was traditionally used in coach building and wheel-writing. Both pieces had a previous life as offcuts from flooring that would have otherwise been thrown away or burnt.
