Description

A handcrafted hair fork made from Mahogany ( Sapele ) and American white Oak. The Mahogany ( Sapele ) has a rich dark hue and deep lustrous grain giving a very smooth finish with lots of depth. The American white oak, by contrast, is paler with flecks of dark brown highlighting its subtle grain. This combination is sure to catch the eye and makes for a very unique pin.

Sapele Mahogany comes from West, Central and East Africa. It is often used in furniture and cabinet making and as a veneer for marquetry. It is also used in the construction of musical instruments, for building boats and as a flooring material. American white Oak grows in eastern Canada and America and is used in similar applications as Sapele. It is notably used in the traditional profession of cooperage which is the crafting of casks and barrels for wine and whisky. Both pieces had a previous life as offcuts from flooring that would have otherwise been thrown away or burnt.

So Useful!

I have a hairpin similar to this one - I constantly reach for it to pin up my hair quickly. Beautifully finished and so smooth; it never gets tangled.
