Taking care of your pendant, hair pin or hair fork

Wood is friendly, warm and light to wear. Keep a few simple things in mind and your hair pin or pendant will last for years. Here are a few tips:

Don't submerge them in water

Wood is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs and releases  water. Although your hair pin or pendant has been treated with a natural beeswax it is still a good idea to stay away from plunging them into the bath or shower.

Avoid dropping them hard on surfaces

Although wood is a fairly flexible material it can split or snap when dropped onto a hard surface like a tiled floor.

Avoid applying excessive force or bending

Don't try to bend your hair pin or pendant as this is likely to result in it snapping.

Feed your wood

Your hair pin or pendant will absorb natural oils from your hair and skin if worn regularly. Every once in a while it's a good idea to feed the wood with a natural oil to help keep it from drying out. Essential oils like lemon are ideal for the job. It is best to avoid cooking oils.
Dark wood hair pins or pendants will tend to darken further over time and lighter woods will turn a deeper hue. In both cases it's likely your hair pin or pendant will look better and better with age.
