Large Contoured Elm Wood Hair Fork

£40.00

This handcrafted hair fork is made from a classic piece of lustrous English Elm with a natural umbra from its sandy coloured heart wood to its pale cream coloured sap wood. A really strong, beautiful and classic fork.

English Elm is a rare find due to Dutch Elm disease. Trees rarely reach maturity before the beetle finds them. It is often used for making boxes, baskets, furniture, hockey sticks, veneer, archery and bows. It is a strong wood with interesting grain and clear distinction between heart wood and sap wood. This piece was left over from a felled tree in a woodland near Bath in 2019.
