Gently Contoured Pyracantha Wood Hair Pin

£35.00

This handcrafted hair pin is made from a stunning piece of Pyracantha wood or Fire Thorn. The top features a deep purple end grain pattern with a natural bark edge. It is a very smooth and strong pin featuring fine knots and a distinctive purple brown heart wood grain running down the piece which contrasts it's lighter coloured sapwood. The gentle contour makes it a very stable pin to 'lock' into your hair.

Pyracantha will be very familiar to gardeners here in the UK. They grow well here and are very thorny. Their berries are a much needed food source for birds during the winter months and provide shelter for nesting. This piece has been made from old wood gathered from a local gardening project. It is a new favourite to work with and I am always excited to find what lies beneath the gnarled bark of this amazing wood.

14.5 cm Long
